Frequently asked questions
Straightforward answers about our websites, hosting, Microsoft services, communications and CIC support.
Getting started
Where are you based and who do you work with?
NW Office is based in Lostock Hall, Lancashire. We work with businesses and community organisations across the North West, including sole traders, professional services, restaurants, hotels, B&Bs and event businesses. Tell us where you are based and what you need so we can discuss a suitable way to help.
What should I include in my first enquiry?
Give us a short description of your business, the service you need and the problem you want to solve. A website address, approximate number of staff or users, location and any target date are useful. You do not need a technical specification: we can help turn your ideas into a clear brief. Please do not send passwords or card details through the enquiry form.
Can I book a one-off project or ongoing support?
Both are available. You might need a website redesign, a Microsoft 365 setup or help preparing an event. Alternatively, you may want ongoing management of agreed services. We discuss the scope, responsibilities and recurring costs before you decide.
How do quotations and ongoing charges work?
Your quote is based on the work, equipment and services you need. We explain the proposed scope and identify one-off and recurring charges, including relevant licences, renewals and third-party costs. Card payments, IoT connectivity and Guest WiFi are quoted individually. Ask us to clarify anything before accepting a proposal.
Websites, hosting and email
Can you redesign my existing website?
Yes. We can review your current pages, design, mobile experience and enquiry process, then recommend what to improve. A redesign can build on content you already have or involve a new structure. A complete website is £900, including one year’s hosting. After year one, £5 per month includes hosting, website updates and weekly Google Analytics-linked reports. We agree the pages, content and functionality before work begins.
What happens during a website project?
We start with your audience, services and the actions you want visitors to take. We then agree the page structure, content and design direction, develop the site and review it with you before launch. The proposed scope will set out what is included and what we need from you, such as your logo, service information and approved photographs.
How long will my website take?
Timescales depend on the size of the site, the features required and how quickly content and feedback are available. Tell us about any launch date in your enquiry. We can discuss a realistic schedule once we understand the brief, rather than promise the same turnaround for every project.
Will the website work on mobile phones?
Our website work considers mobile, tablet and desktop visitors. This includes readable text, straightforward navigation and clear enquiry routes. We check the agreed pages at different screen sizes so customers can find your services and get in touch from the devices they use.
Is search engine optimisation included?
Initial SEO setup and configuration are included with our website projects. We discuss the pages and services you want people to find and give the site a clear structure. Ongoing content and SEO work can be scoped separately. Search positions depend on many factors, so a specific ranking cannot be promised.
Can you move my website or email from another provider?
We can review your current hosting, domain and email arrangements and propose a migration plan. The steps depend on the existing system and the access available. We agree what needs to move, any backups required and how the change will be checked. Keep your current services active until the transfer has been reviewed.
What do hosting and business email cost?
Website hosting starts from £5 per month, with SSL included. Microsoft business email starts from £5 per month, and website hosting with email starts from £10 per month. The appropriate package depends on your website, users and service requirements. Your quote will explain the agreed package and any additional charges.
Can you help with changes after launch?
Yes. Tell us whether you need occasional updates or ongoing management. New pages, content changes, maintenance and other support should be included in an agreed scope so you know what is covered. We can also discuss which routine updates you would like to manage yourself.
Microsoft 365, Azure and business phones
What can you help with in Microsoft 365?
We help with Microsoft 365 setup, migration and ongoing management. Start by telling us how many people need access, your current email provider and how your team works. We can then discuss the accounts, licences and configuration needed for your business; the tools available depend on the chosen Microsoft plan.
What is Azure support suitable for?
Azure support is useful when you need help planning, configuring or managing Microsoft cloud services behind your business. We begin with the job the system needs to do, who will use it and the existing setup. Project work and ongoing management can be scoped separately, with relevant Microsoft usage and licence costs considered.
Can you help with business VoIP and an existing number?
Business VoIP solutions start from £14.99 per month. We discuss users, call handling and the devices you want to use. If you want to retain an existing number, we first check whether a transfer is possible and what the provider requires. Do not cancel your current phone service before an agreed transfer has completed.
What should I consider before changing to VoIP?
Tell us about your internet connection, current phone system, handsets and any equipment that relies on the telephone line. We can discuss a suitable setup and the implications of a connection or power interruption. Equipment, number transfers and additional services will depend on your provider and agreed package.
Card payments and IoT connectivity
Do you provide card machines for events and temporary venues?
Yes. We offer card-payment solutions, including short-term card-machine rental for events, hospitality and temporary venues. Share the event dates, location, expected number of terminals and how you plan to trade. Availability, provider approval and applicable charges are confirmed as part of the quotation.
How much do card payments cost?
Card-payment services are quote-based. Costs depend on the equipment, rental period, provider and connectivity required. Your proposal should distinguish equipment or rental charges from transaction and payment-provider fees, so you can assess the overall cost for your business or event.
Can IoT connectivity help at a busy event?
We offer IoT connectivity options for payment equipment and assess them against the location, terminal compatibility and expected conditions. This can be considered where ordinary mobile connectivity is a concern. Coverage and network capacity still matter: IoT connectivity does not automatically remove congestion or guarantee uninterrupted payments.
What information do you need to plan payment connectivity?
Send the venue address, event dates, indoor or outdoor setting, number of payment points and any known signal problems. If you already have terminals, tell us the make and model. These details help us assess suitable options and discuss checks ahead of the event.
Guest WiFi
Which businesses can use your Guest WiFi solutions?
We help hospitality venues, businesses and events plan WiFi for customers and visitors. A small café, a hotel with several floors and a temporary event have different requirements. We look at the layout, expected users, existing equipment and available internet connection before recommending a setup.
Can you improve an existing Guest WiFi setup?
Yes. Tell us where coverage is weak, when the connection becomes slow and roughly how many people use it. Details of your internet service, router and access points are helpful. We can assess whether the issue relates to coverage, equipment, demand or the incoming connection and propose appropriate work.
Can guest access be kept separate from business equipment?
Tell us which systems need to stay separate, such as staff devices and payment equipment. We can discuss a suitable network design and access arrangements for the equipment in your proposed setup. The configuration and any hardware changes will form part of the agreed scope.
How is Guest WiFi priced?
Guest WiFi is priced by quotation. The venue size, building layout, equipment, installation needs and support requirements all affect the proposal. We explain the intended setup and relevant ongoing costs before work begins; adding WiFi equipment alone cannot increase the capacity of an unsuitable internet connection.
CICs and community organisations
What support do you offer community interest companies?
We offer reduced-price website design and hosting, policy-writing support and help scoping the digital elements of community projects. Tell us who the organisation supports, what it wants to achieve and the budget or deadlines you are working towards. We can then discuss an appropriate package.
Can you help scope a grant-funded digital project?
We can help describe the website, hosting or other digital work your project needs and put together an appropriate scope and quotation. Funding decisions sit with the funder, and an award cannot be guaranteed. Policy and project support does not replace any specialist legal or financial advice your organisation needs.
